MEET OUR DYNAMIC TRAINERS
JOE SCHACHT, BS Exercise Science, ACSM, HFS, FMS Certified
After almost five years of experience at different facilities throughout the state, Joe wanted nothing more than to mold his philosophies and approach toward fitness with his own facility. Joe opened Dynamics Fitness & Performance in Portland, October of 2009. He brings an abundance of passion and energy to his new “home.” Joe graduated from St. Joseph ‘s College in 2007 with a BS in Exercise Science and also earned a certification with the American College of Sports Medicine as a Certified Health and Fitness Specialist in 2007. Joe is further certified as a Functional Movement Specialist, which enables him to systematically screen athletes and individuals of all levels and identify and limit weak links in their movement patterns to develop a personalized fitness program. It is important not to apply fitness to dysfunction which puts athletes and individuals at high risk for injury.
Joe’s internships and independent training experiences afforded him the opportunity to develop a connection with the philosophies associated with functional training. This connection, coupled with his natural passion for health and fitness, have made him a leader in his field. Joe is a firm believer in goal setting and believes age is only a number. He takes great pride in (1) progressing each client’s ability level to a place they may have never been before or thought they might never attain and (2) not only helping his clients reach their aesthetic goals, but more importantly, optimizing the performance of their bodies to also feel great. Joe’s program design capabilities along with his natural ability to apply and motivate have allowed him to train a large number of high school and college athletes throughout the state. He believes that success will come at a faster pace if his clients are first given what they need and then given what they want. Joe further believes that human beings are actually making athletic movements every day of their lives, and he appropriately modifies each client’s fitness routine in a safe and efficient manner that focuses on quality instead of quantity.
Jim Giroux, MS, CSCS
Fitness and Performance have been two areas that occupied much of Jim’s time in the last 20+ years. Beginning at UMass after completing his MS there,
he worked to improve the quality of the tr.ack & field programs. Bringing in better athletes and training them smarter helped accomplish this. In 2000 Jim began working for Perform Better. As an outside sales rep he helped personal training, performance, health clubs, physical therapy clinics and schools outfit their new and existing facilities with equipment from the floor up. Also during that time he attended many workshops, clinics and seminars on training and conditioning.
Much of Jim’s approach to fitness revolves around training the five biomotor abilities: speed, strength, endurance, technique and flexibility. Everyone uses all of these abilities in daily life and athletics. Borrowing from different schools of training to address each client’s unique needs is a staple of Jim’s program design philosophy. As we age, we generally become less active, not only in volume of exercise but also range of motion used. Training to restore these abilities can be very effective if programmed sequentially. This is accomplished by touching the biomotor abilities but not annihilating them like we might have done when we were younger. Having spent a fair amount of time working with masters age athletes has allowed Jim to understand the needs of the aging athlete in all of us.
Jim has spoken and done in-services at schools, physical therapy clinics and health clubs on many current training topics. He has also spoken at track & field state and regional conferences on training for the field events and speed development. In addition to being CSCS, Jim is also FMS certified, a USA Weightlifting Club Coach,TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) Level One Golf Fitness Instructor as well as USATF Level 2 Jumps Coach. He has worked with and spoken about coaching development with coaches and athletes in field hockey, soccer, football and hockey. Jim has coached All American Track & Field athletes at both Division Ill and Division I. He currently is an assistant coach with the USM women’s program as well as the Gorham HS Boys & Girls Programs.
Jessica Humble
Jessie has a lifelong love of fitness, from her days sprinting for her high school and college track teams, to hiking the Grand Canyon multiple times, and to summiting numerous mountains all over Arizona and Colorado. She moved to Maine in 2014 and found Dynamics Fitness to be a great environment in which to stay in shape and also be a part of a fun community.
Jessie earned her B.S. in Geological Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology and her M.S. in Geological Engineering from Colorado School of Mines. She has worked for many years as a geotechnical engineer for a consulting company. After having three children, she realized the importance of making time to exercise and stay healthy. Jessie strongly believes that in order to take care of others, you must take care of yourself.
Jessie has been an avid boot camper at the Scarborough location since 2014. She enjoys staying active with her daughters and exploring Maine. She decided to pursue her passion for fitness and working with others by getting her NASM Personal Trainer Certification in the spring of 2019. Jessie’s objective is to assist her clients in meeting their goals to lead healthier and happier lives.
Kelsy Hartley
Kelsy believes that all good things come from the body: vitality, empowerment, and joy. A fun-loving, community-building creative, Kelsy finds that strength and movement are the best medicine. They support mental health and prevent burnout, create a pathway through injury and big life events, and facilitate the capacity to show up fully for oneself while engaging with community in a powerful way.
As an ever-evolving athlete, from collegiate rower, and outrigger paddler, to competitive SUP racer and cold water aficionado, Kelsy has enjoyed ebbing and flowing through new iterations of movement found at different life stages. She has a deep appreciation for the process of coming back from injuries or setbacks and loves the ongoing exploration of tuning in with one’s own body-centered consciousness. Kelsy is a writer and a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist working towards her NASM certification.
She has seen that with the right community, consistency and support, any transformation is possible. She is thrilled to be a part of the Dynamics Crew.
JAIME GROVER, NASM, CPT
Jaime has always loved fitness, nutrition and working with people. She participated in several sports, dance and gymnastics growing up and continued to pursue all classical forms of dance through her college years. In 2003 Jaime earned a BA in Psychology and began a career in the social services.
Although Jaime never lost her interest in fitness, after college she was involved in very little physical activity. In 2011, Jaime was inspired to run a marathon during a trip to Florida. She immediately began training and one year later ran her first road race, a marathon. While her pace was incredibly slow, she finished the race and was reminded of her love for fitness. Following the race she continued to run and started attending boot camps regularly. Four years later, and after many road races and boot camps, Jaime decided to pursue certification in personal training. Jaime hopes to share her passion of running, boot camp and overalll fitness, as well as encourage and guide others on their own journeys.
Mike Milliken, CSCS
Since the early 2000s, Mike has woven a passion for athletics, fitness, and wellness into a career mission of creating healthy communities by bridging the gap between fitness and healthcare. Mike strongly believes that daily movement is the most potent and broad sweeping “medicine” to promote quality of life and ward off chronic disease. He has a degree in Community Health Education, Exercise Science, and Nutrition from the University of Maine at Farmington. It was in Farmington where he began training at the University’s Fitness and Recreation Center.
He is currently the Manager of Community Wellness, Club and Intramural Sports at Bates College. He began at Bates in 2007 where he worked to create and develop an employee wellness program called B Well. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Mike has had the pleasure of coaching a diverse clientele ranging from college athletes, youth, and adults young and old. He believes that training environments should be positive and focused on creating flow state: where the level of challenge meets the level of skill. Boot Camp’s are an exceptional opportunity to practice this concept!
Mike has also served as the head coach of the Bates Men’s Rugby team since 2013 and was a former player for the Portland Rugby Club. In his free time, Mike spends a great deal of time exploring the many natural resources of Maine with his wife Nell and son James.
Stephanie Clyde NASM-CPT, AFAA-GFI
Stephanie has always had a love of fitness. She doesn’t remember a time when exercise, dance and running weren’t a part of her life. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aviation Science with a Business Minor from Western Michigan University in December 1998. She started her flying career as a flight instructor, teaching flight students of all ages the rewarding art of flying airplanes through extensive ground and flight training. She then worked as a corporate and charter pilot domestically and internationally flying Citation and Gulfstream turbojet aircraft. Stephanie stopped working when she and her husband, Ryan, started their family. They moved from Michigan to Maine in 2007 before the birth of their second child. They have loved raising their four kids here and continue to enjoy the beauty of Maine through skiing, hiking, camping and many other outdoor activities.
Stephanie always searched for ways to stay fit while home with her kids, and once she was introduced to Dynamics Boot Camp classes, she was hooked. She knew that the special blend of energy and motivation of Dynamics trainers was what she was striving to achieve. She spent two years as a certified Behavioral Health Professional working in a local preschool where she was able to incorporate her love of fitness into the children’s daily curriculum. During this time, she became a Certified Personal Trainer through NASM and a Group Fitness Instructor through AFAA. She feels so blessed to have the opportunity to bring a love of health and fitness to others in such a supportive space.

He recently graduated with a Masters of Physician Assistant studies from MCPHS and now works as a PA in the Emergency Department at Southern Maine Health Care.

A self-proclaimed jock, Christina went on to play soccer and basketball at Bowdoin College where she earned her BA in Government and Legal Studies and a minor in Italian. After needing two hip surgeries during her college career, Christina became an avid yogi and earned her Buti Yoga Certification while living in Scottsdale, AZ and her 200 RYT Certification while living in Minneapolis, MN. While in Minneapolis, she worked closely with a friend to open a fitness studio, fusing vinyasa and HIIT/plyometrics together.
Christina moved back to the East Coast at the end of 2019 and found herself becoming a regular once again at Dynamics Fitness (a big thank you to her sisters for getting her out of bed.) Naomi Kordak, Boot Camp Instructor
Ryan Sandman
Ryan grew up being active and playing sports. During his later years in high school he started working out with some friends. After lifting weights for a few months he started to notice a difference in his athletic performance. He was stronger, faster, and felt better. Ryan became very interested in the relationship between fitness and athletic performance, leading him to apply for University of New England’s (UNE) Applied Exercise Science program.
During those college years Ryan learned about how fitness can benefit overall health, not just sports performance. This also led him to his interest in nutrition, which became his minor at UNE. Through multiple internships he learned how to eat and exercise properly, as well as, coach people with a variety of fitness levels, from high school athletes to senior citizens. As a personal trainer with a BS in Applied Exercise Science it is Ryan’s passion to help people reach their goals and become happier and healthier.
Ryan has been a valued member of the Dynamics team since 2018. In addition to his affiliation with Dynamics and his continued role as a personal trainer, Ryan has recently broadened his coaching to include online Health, Sleep, and Weight Loss coaching. Megan Good
Megan’s love of fitness and living a healthy lifestyle started in high school when she began working at a health club in Massachusetts. There she took a variety of fitness classes and began to appreciate how strength and endurance training helped her both physically and mentally. In college, while pursuing her BS in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of New Hampshire, Megan developed a love for running. She went on to complete two Boston Marathons and several half marathons around the New England area.
Megan’s life brought her from Boston to the Portland area in the summer of 2018. She decided to pursue her certification through ACE as a group fitness instructor as a way to share her passion for health and fitness with her new community. When Megan started taking boot camp classes at Dynamics, she knew this was the place for her.
Megan also works as a speech-language pathologist in the public school system, where she works with students with a variety of communication disorders. Overall, she loves the feeling of being able to help others achieve their goals both in and outside of the gym setting.
Jamie Collins
Jamie’s seriousness towards fitness and performance first came as a collegiate athlete at Saint Joseph’s College where he played baseball. Coming into his freshman year he had some experience with training but was definitely behind his teammates when it came to strength, power, and speed. After not having much of an impact on the team his freshman season, Jamie committed himself to training hard, eating a more nutritious diet, and staying consistent. Over the course of the following 3 years, Jamie was able to transform his body and compete at a high level.
With his own personal experience in health and fitness as well as his college undergraduate major being Exercise Science, Jamie pursued a career in Strength & Conditioning. Knowing what he was able to accomplish himself and his motivation to help others succeed, it seemed like a perfect fit.
Jamie went on to complete his Master of Education in Strength & Conditioning at Springfield College, graduating in December of 2019. He has held multiple positions at different colleges and universities in New England as well as a Strength & Conditioning Coach in the Kansas City Royals baseball organization.
Jamie’s training style is all-encompassing and focuses on a variety of skills that improve quality of life. In a session with Jamie, you can expect a focus on flexibility and mobility to improve muscle and joint health, strength and power exercises that are practical to your lifestyle, and conditioning that helps you reach your overall fitness goals. Jamie’s vast experience with working with people has given him many opportunities to learn and provide the best fitness program possible!
